If you’re looking for an easy (and inexpensive) way to make a cake stand, we have the project for you. This simple wood stand is perfect for a rustic themed wedding and only requires four materials.

Supplies

Round piece of wood. We used a wood paver from Home Depot.

Fabric doilies or any fabric that has a open weaved design (like lace)

Spray paint. We’re especially fond of metallic.

Wood stain

Step 1: Arrange and Spray

Arrange the doilies on the piece of wood and spray the surface with the spray paint.

Step 2: Remove and Wait

Next, take the doilies off the wood and wait for the surface to be dry to the touch.

Step 3: Stain and Go

Use a rag or foam brush to spread the stain evenly over the surface of the spray painted wood. This will give the wood a more blended and subtle affect.

And, there you go! Ready to make your cake the center of attention?

If you try this idea yourself, or if you have any DIY ideas to share, send your photos to blog@weddingpaperdivas.com and we’ll post them for all of our fans and followers.

From Personalized Stationery Blog - Gifts In 24 by John Driscoll

In theory, staying in touch with friends and family separated by long distances is easier than ever today. In addition to exchanging emails or using an instant messenger program (remember those?), you can connect on Facebook, Twitter, or half a dozen other social networking sites. If that’s not enough, most people are just a quick text message or cell phone call away.

Let’s be honest though. If you have a Facebook page, you likely have friends on there you knew from college, or high school, or some other place and time in your past, that aren’t a big part of your life anymore. Sure, you can see their status updates, look at their photos, and see what they had for lunch or comment on that funny picture they re-posted from someone else. But how often do you actually talk to these people? Are they really part of your life anymore?

For all the high-tech ways we have of staying in touch with each other, we don’t often take advantage of the opportunity to remain close with these people, even if we still like to consider them important to us. We often find that when someone is that far away, we just don’t have much to talk about with them. It doesn’t help that most of the electronic means of communication at our fingertips are so impersonal. If anything, sending a text or posting on someone’s Facebook wall often accentuates the physical distance separating us from these people.

If you find yourself with an urge to reconnect with someone like this, you might try a text message or a Facebook post, and maybe it will work. But to truly connect on a personal level with someone whom you can’t speak with face to face, there really is no better way than sending a real letter the old-fashioned way. Why not pull out your pad of personalized papers and write a letter to an old friend, one who might live far away now?

By writing with pen and paper, your message will become closer and more personal. Not only will your custom stationery bring a personal feel to the letter that would otherwise be lacking, but the slower pace of writing a letter can cause you to choose your words differently, and really get to the heart of what you’d like to say. It’s a great way to stay close with someone who has moved far away, or reestablish contact with someone who might have drifted apart from you over time.

Alternatively, you could choose to send your message in the form of a personalized card. This is ideal for a birthday, anniversary, or other notable occasion, but can also be fun even if there is no particular upcoming event. Who doesn’t like to receive a personalized card in the mail?

Whether you choose to send a letter or a card, you can find the tools you need right here. GiftsIn24.com has customized stationery and cards to suit a wide variety of tastes, and without a doubt you can find the right medium with which to get in touch with someone you haven’t spoken to in awhile.

With the National Stationery Show just around the corner, this seems like the perfect time to review a new book called I Heart Stationery by Charlotte Rivers. The book is a beautiful collection of greeting cards and paper products from dozens of designers, all organized by technique. It covers hand-drawn illustrations, screen printing, letterpress, woodblock, digital illustration, calligraphy, spray paint, papercut, relief print and etchings. There is SO much content!

Tips and interviews with stationery designers offer useful, practical advice on everything from paper choices to sustainability and how to approach manufacturers.

From Wedding Style, Planning & Inspiration | the Wedding Paper Divas Blog by Jessica

Wedding Paper Divas is bursting with staff grooms and brides-to-be who are currently planning their weddings. We’re happy to share their stories with you as a part of this fun feature!

Let me just start off by saying, I am surprisingly calm. So calm, in fact, that I am starting to freak myself out that I should be stressing out more. It’s finally so close that both Dan and I can almost feel the day. What’s making me the most nervous? That I won’t be able to say the vows that I wrote because I’ll be crying too hard. In my opinion, there could be things much worse, so I am not too worried.

All the finals details have fallen into place. And all those things that seemed like they would never come to an end have worked themselves out. We are both so ready to see the year and eight months of planning come to fruition. I can picture the whole day in my head, but I have a sneaky feeling when I actually see it it will blow my vision out of the water. I have already come to terms with all the little things that didn’t happen exactly as I imagined. I guess I really took it to heart when every bride says not to stress over the little things. I know no one will notice the way I will, and if it doesn’t drive me crazy, then I am sure no one else will care. Here is a little taste of some inspiration that did make it into our details:

(I actually repurposed stationery from Wedding Paper Divas to make my Madlibs Guestbook myself!)

You know what else is pretty, cool? When we first got engaged, we figured out how much we could spend on the wedding without breaking the bank. We pulled together a seemingly random number (not really having an idea of what things really cost, but taking our best guess) and we ended up being $37 under budget. We basically did everything that was on our wish list. That’s pretty sweet, if you ask me.

Tuesday is my last day at work, but I will be back in a few months to share the photos and all the post-wed advice!

Meet Jessica

Jessica and Dan met nearly 7 years ago on Myspace. (Remember Myspace?) It took weeks of contemplation until they decided to finally meet… and I guess you could say the rest was history. After discovering their mutual shoe addiction, surviving countless Thanksgiving family meals together and three apartment/house moves later—they are officially ready to tie the knot.

Jessica and Dan are getting married May 27, 2012 at Malibou Lake Mountain Club in Los Angeles.

Friday is coming up. And hopefully most of us will find that exciting. Some people like to spend the weekend relaxing, catching up on some reading and family. Mine very rarely look anything like that. I tend to be even busier on weekends that I am on a day at the work place. I’ve got meetings. I’ve got projects that need to be finished. I’ve got to do errands. But this weekend is different…

This weekend is guy time.

It’s a much needed mini vacation where I can just hang out with some of my closest guy friends. We already set it in stone and I must admit I am excited. That kind of excitement a little child gets when they find out their whole family is going to Six Flags on a perfect summer day. We are going to be grilling up some steaks, laughing, enjoying life, and playing video games. Games are one of our favorite times together. It seems to be one thing that can unite us anytime, anywhere. We love the adrenaline and team work involved. Yelling at each other in the same room like it’s a war zone. Personally I like to crank up my home theater to sound like I’m actually there in real life! Floors- shaking, teeth- rattling, thirst- growing, stomach- growling!

With all this fun, us guys can’t help but work up a soldier sized appetite. So on this unique occasion, I went beyond the call of duty and got a set of personalized napkins to use in tandem with all our snackage. I can’t wait for them to see. I chose to get a foil stamped personalized napkin with a logo that I designed up myself so that we could use on more than one occasion. I loved the black napkin with silver foil because I knew it would match the electronic equipment in my theater room. So call me a nerd! What I do know is that the option for custom stationery really shows how Giftsin24 is an unstoppable force, prepared for anything you throw at it.
